Bio:
Odelia formed in Fullerton, CA in the fall of 2001. The band has an unstructured approach to creating music, incorporating loops and non-traditional rock instruments, switching off said instruments during songs, and a general DIY approach. The band’s sound can be described as dynamic and atmospheric. Like their contemporaries, Odelia can be categorized in many genres. They have been described as experimental, post-rock, avant-rock, and instrumental. However, Odelia is comfortable with being described simply as a rock band.
There is no single creator of Odelia's music. The band has distanced themselves from traditional song writing, their writing process is a collaborative, live experiment that stumbles over trial and error. The movement within the music is the focus, and vocals are used sparingly to enhance songs. Each song uniquely evolves in a dynamic range of sound and textures. Since 2001 Odelia has recorded Four albums Argyplanischa , The Angel as an Imposter, songs for a clownfish and Don’t Go Down to the Water. But to truly experience Odelia you need to see them live.
Odelia has gained quite a reputation for their live performances. The band incorporates visual art by projecting film and is often joined by visual artist John Hagan who paints along side the band during live performances. Odelia has shared the stage with artists such as Explosions in the Sky, Donovan, Eluvium, Lazarus, and the Wind-Up Bird. They've played at numerous venues, including the Knitting Factory, Spaceland, Galaxy Theatre, Koos, the Gypsy Lounge, and several colleges. For the over two years the band has maintained a popular monthly residency at Plush design lab called 'Music of the Spheres'. They have also had the opportunity to play live on college radio stations KUCI and KSPC.
